Controversies

Morgan Spurlock

The school received national news attention in March 2006 over an incident with Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker known for his documentary Supersize Me. During an assembly Spurlock made several remarks that were deemed inappropriate by the school’s administration for which he later apologized. Following the incident during a preview for the student body, the Hatboro Horsham Education Foundation, who invited him to speak in the first place, cancelled the evening lecture, that was to be attended by adults, not children of the district and surrounding areas.[1] [2]

Assisted Abortion

In 1999, a lawsuit was filed against the school district and William Hickey, a school guidance counselor. The suit charged that Hickey had assisted a young girl in obtaining an abortion and that Hickey had helped the student keep the abortion secret from her parents, and directed her to a clinic in New Jersey where she could obtain the abortion without the consent that is required for a minor in Pennsylvania.
