Chlo Grainger is a fictional character in the popular BBC television drama series Waterloo Road. She is portrayed by Katie Griffiths.

Storyline

School

Chlo is the daughter of drama teacher Izzie Redpath, who was stabbed to death by Jed Seddon at the end of Series 2. She and sister Mika Grainger are now in the care of English teacher and Izzie's fiance, Tom Clarkson.

Chlo is known to be a bright, well behaved girl. She entered her first year of A-Levels in Series 3, and it was later revealed she was taking Sociology and French, amongst other subjects. However, she wants to pursue her passion of hairdressing, so neglects her school work. At the end of Series 3, it was revealed she had cheated in her coursework by copying an essay off of a website. Tom revealed, before the fire, that he would have to expel her.

Chlo's best friends at school are Janeece Bryant, Maxine Barlow until her death, and more recently Flick Mellor.

Donte

Donte is Chlo's husband; they married at the beginning of series 3 after a relationship of around two years. He constantly hunts her for sexual intercourse, which she initially turned down. Once, they were at their peak of their relationship, sharing a house free of people, and were seriously thinking about going this extra mile before Lewis Seddon and his friend forced their way into the house. Donte, now aged 19, is a year older than Chlo. He has real feelings for her but does not show them in the right way. In the last episode of series 2 we saw Chlo having her sixteenth birthday party with Lewis spiking her drink. Chlo started acting in a sexual way and took Donte to the bedroom then the last bit the viewer sees from the party is the two of them on the bed kissing after Donte showed her an engament ring. The following day, Chlo was angry at Donte as she thought he took advantage of her when she was drugged. Later on he sets the record straight and she forgave him. They announce their engagement to Izzie Redpath, who was furious. Chlo vowed to run away, but Izzie was killed the same evening at the hands of knife-wielding Jed Seddon.

Marriage and marital difficulties

In the first episode of Series 3, Chlo and Donte were married in a registry office with Chlo's sister Mika and her boyfriend Brett Aspinall serving as Maid of Honour and Best Man respectively. Tom Clarkson, Izzy's partner tried to stop the union but was powerless when Chlo revealed a piece of paper with written permission from her father, Jimmy. However, a month-and-a-half into the marriage, Chlo had a brief but passionate fling with Brett Aspinall, which Donte found out about. He subsequently told Mika Grainger, and she went ballistic. Tom separated them, and Mika screamed at Chlo that she never wanted to see her again, something she would later regret saying.

After realising she had hurt Donte and Mika, the two people she loved most, Chlo decided to leave Rochdale and board a train elsewhere. While in a cybercafe, Chlo found a young woman, Lucy, who was looking for a flatmate and began lodging with her. It soon became obvious that Lucy was a nasty piece of work, but Chlo contacted Tom. He brought the police with them, and she was arrested, along with her evil boyfriend and a middle-aged man at the house who was ready to use Chlo as a prostitute. Tom brought her back to the grounds of 'Waterloo Road', where she and Mika were reconciled temporarily.

Chlo recently discovered that Donte is now involved with Celine Dixon and she has had to face the fact that he may have moved on, she is currently unsure where their relationship lies. She is getting back on track with her sister Mika and is glad that Mika and Brett may finally be getting along, unfortunately things are not the same between her and Donte.

In the final episode of the series, Chlo was trapped in the girls toilets during a fire started by Stuart Hordley, a man who was blackmailing head teacher Rachel Mason for her involvement in prostitution around 20 years earlier. Chlo began to suffer from smoke inhalation but was rescued by Tom and Donte.

Series 4

Chlo is back together with Donte, but quickly fell pregnant at the age of 17 by him. She is currently in her final year of Sixth Form, and has made friends with Head girl, Flick Mellor. Mika has now graduated from Waterloo Road and has gone to study at university as has Brett. Chlo's baby bump is starting to show and she is having emotional issues as she believes her mother would be dissapointed in her. This leads her to give up her hairdressing NVQ and is determined to get her A levels and progress to University. Donte isn't as optimistic and believes that Chlo's studying and going to university is drifting them both further and further away. He doesn't know what else to do except take out his frustrations in the only way he knows how leaving Chlo mortified and wondering wether he is ready to be a father to their baby at all.

It was revealed by Chris Geere (Matt Wilding) that Chlo will be leaving at the end of Series 4. [1]
