#REDIRECT Ryu (Street Fighter)#Fighting style
The Shoryuken (called Dragon Punch in the US) is a special move from the Street Fighter series. The move is done by pressing Towards, Down, Down/Towards and a punch button. This notation (Towards, Down, Down/Towards) is generally referred to as the Dragon Punch command (often abbreviated as DP). Alternatively, Back, Down, Down/Back is called the Reverse Dragon Punch command (often abbreviated as RDP). The first characters gameplay wise to use the Shoryuken are Ryu and Ken Masters.

Appearance
The Shoryuken involves the user jumping off of one foot, raising the other knee to their chest, covering their core with the forearm of one arm, raising the other arm in the air while rotating their body. The user usually yells "Shoryuken!" while doing the move.

Ryu and Ken's Shoryukens have changed over time. Ryu's Shoryuken is a one hit move for all punches. Ken's weak Shoryuken is similar to Ryu's, his middle Shoryuken usually hits twice, and his fierce Shoryuken hits multiple times and his hitting fist is engulfed in flames. Akuma uses the Gou Shoryuken, which is able to juggle in some games.

Alternatives
Other characters from both Street Fighter and other series have Shoryuken type moves. Dan Hibiki uses a Koryuken which is essentially the same thing as Ryu's but he rotates the other way. Sakura Kazugano uses a Shuouken where she dashes at the opponent and jumps off the ground after a bit while her fist is in the air. Sagat uses a Tiger Uppercut which looks the same as Ryu. In fact, he created the Tiger Uppercut to counter Ryu's Shoryuken. Ryo Sakazaki from The King of Fighters uses a Shoryuken type move as well.

The Shoryuken has also been used in super moves. Ken uses a Shoryu Reppa in which he does one or two weak Shoryukens followed by a strong one. Ken also uses a Shinryuken in which he Shoryukens straight upward which hits the opponent multiple times (and can be button mashed for more hits). Ryu and Gouken use a Shin Shoryuken in which the user hits the opponent in the chest, uppercuts the jaw, and finally releases a very power Shoryuken. Akuma uses a Messatsu Gou Shoryuu which is pretty much the same as Ken's Shoryu Reppa.

In the VS series, the Shoryukens looks slightly different. Each of Ken and Akuma's Shoryukens are completely engulfed in red and purple flames respectively. Ken's Shinryuken has his body in a pillar of fire while 2 streams of fire spiral downward from his fist as he travels upward.
