Ronon Dex (played by Jason Momoa) is a fictional character in the science fiction television series Stargate Atlantis. He is an Satedan from the Pegasus Galaxy who has been a Runner for the past seven years. Prior to his capture by the Wraith, he had been a member of the Satedan military, holding the rank of Specialist. He is first encountered by humans from Earth in 2005 when he captured Lt. Colonel John Sheppard and Teyla Emmagan. He makes a deal with them: if their doctor can remove the tracking device, he'd help them capture Lt. Ford. Dr. Beckett manages to extract the device, but a Wraith attack prevents the capture of Ford. He returns with them to Atlantis. When they send a MALP to the gate address he gave them, he found his planet was completely destroyed ("Runner").

Sheppard offers him a place on his team after he cleans the floor with the Marines, nearly beats Teyla (another member of the team and the best in hand to hand combat), and passes the shooting range tests without even blinking ("Duet").

In the first episode with Ronon Dex, his character appears to be very primal and animalistic. This is due to having been hunted for 7 years -- years that were almost completely void of human contact.

However, in later episodes, his character is shown as very laid back, except when confronted by an enemy. When getting in a fight with Sheppard, his new commanding officer, they exchange heated words until Ronon asks if what Sheppard is telling him is an order, resulting in the confirmation that if it has to be, it's an order. Then Ronon relaxes and simply says, "OK". He seems to take everything very calmly. The only times that Ronon has shown irrational, violent, and impulsive behavior is when confronted by the Wraith, or when threatened.

Later, Ronon found out that he wasn't the only surviving member of his people. About 300 more Satedans managed to make it to the shelters west of the capital, and later moved to other planets like Ballkan and Manaria. He also learned that Kell, Taskmaster during his military training, was among the survivors.

The day after, when Kell came to Ballkan to trade, Ronon killed him. In his own words, "Kell commanded several infantry divisions on Sateda. When the Wraith came, he ordered thousands to their death just to save himself. He was...he was a traitor and a coward. My only regret is that his death was quick." ("Trinity").
