Anthony James "Tony" Hibbert (born 20 February 1981 in Liverpool) is an English football player who currently plays as a defender for Everton.

Career

Hibbert was born in Merseyside and brought up in Huyton. He was a member of the Everton youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1998, and made his first team debut for the club in their 2–0 win against West Ham United in 2001. Originally a midfielder, Hibbert has adapted his game and is now a regular at right back. In July 2005 he signed a four-year deal with his hometown club. The ACTIM index rated him the best English right back in the 2004–05 season,[1] but he has yet to receive an England call up.

He missed the end of the 2005–06 season with a hernia problem and his preparations for the 2006–07 season were hampered after he was infected by cryptosporidium parasite, an illness contracted through infected water or food.[2] Hibbert's 2006–07 season was seriously disrupted by injury. He again played regularly in 2007–08 and in 2008/09 began to regain his best form, starring in the January 4th round FA cup win over Liverpool.[3] He is the longest serving player currently at Everton.
