Skytone

Skytone is an independent Canadian pop/rock band formed in Ottawa, Ontario in 2003. Rodney Doddridge is on lead guitar, vocals, and drums. He is joined by brother Darius Doddridge on bass and vocals. Their music, although heavily influenced by The Beatles, has often been compared with many other bands including Sloan (band), Badfinger, Coldplay and The Wondermints.

History

The Doddridge brothers have been playing music together since childhood. As a result, they had written many songs together.

In 1996, joied by drummer Steve Neilson, they released their debut album "Pat's Ugly Yellow Dress" under the band name Garrison Finish. A second album followed in 1998, "Inside These Four Walls" under new band name The Mudpouts. Neilson later left the band.

In 2002, they releasaed "All My Friends". The 4 song album launched Wally Salem's Ottawa-based label The Beautiful Music. This time they were joined by bassist Terry O'Reilly and drummer Nolan Rawlings. Both Rawlings and O'Reilly parted ways with the band. Terry O'Reilly later joined labelmates Nick Danger and The Danger City Rebels.

Skytone

In 2006 the brothers decided to perform as a duo, changing their name to Skytone. They released the album "Echoes In All Directions" in 2006. Album tracks "Lindbergh", "The New York Song" and "Just a Little Attention" have proven popular on campus radio charts. They have also appeared on CBC Radio 3.

In the spring of 2008, Skytone won the regional final of the Canadian Radio Star National Songwriting Competition for the song "String of Pearls".

In late 2008 they began recording a new album, tentatively titled Light and Shade. As of 2009, they are still recording and fine-tuning the sound of the album.
