Detroit Public TV replacement by Rogers

Rogers Cable has announced plan to replace WQLN with the Detroit Public TV feed (WTVS) [also, WPBS is being replaced with WTVS in the Ottawa area] due to -- what Rogers says is -- a higher quality signal (digital fiber optics) and better programming that they say subscribers want. To reflect this, WQLN has been running on-air promos urging Canadian viewers in Southwestern Ontario (London especially) to contact Rogers and tell them to demand they keep WQLN on the analog basic channel slot (channel 8, London).

It's believed that WQLN is one of the rare PBS stations that actually gets more viewers from Canada than the U.S. bordering city they are licensed to. So this, and the fact that Governor Ed Rendell is proposing cutting ALL funding for Public Broadcasting for the state of Pennsylvania to make up for a large deficit they face. The one-two blow could prove fatal for the station. Worthe mentioning?????

Have you got a verifible source? I find that more Canadians watch WQLN than do Americans very dubious (as some who watches it and knowing people who watch regularly in Erie). I have seen the promos, though, and heard about Rendell's budget cut. But better sources are a must. --D.B.talkcontribs 16:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Also check the www.WQLN.org website for a "contact Rogers" link. In addition, they're running a 30 second spot asking Rogers subscribers to contact Rogers and ask them to reconsider. I also got a notice in the mail saying WQLN was being removed and replaced w/ WTVS.
