Corrin Campbell

Corrin Campbell (born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA) is a vocalist, pianist, bassist, and songwriter in the band Corrin Campbell and The Election.

Biography

Hailing from Superior, Wisconsin, Corrin Campbell has been exploring different musical aspirations most of her life. Upon graduating high school, she joined the United States Army and served as a bass guitar player and vocalist in the Army Band Field.

In addition to regular bandsman duties, she also participated in the U.S. Army Soldier Show: a 90-minute live musical review showcasing active duty soldiers. The show assembled in six weeks and then toured for 7 months in the continental United States, Cuba, and portions of Korea. Crowds would range from 100 to 13,000 people. During this time she was also featured in promotional TV and radio interviews while on tour, and also performed behind Wynonna Judd at the 2003 Army Birthday Ball.[1]

From 2004 to 2005, she deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division to Baghdad in Operation Iraqi Freedom II. As a lead singer of the rock group, band leader of the jazz como, and bass player of the Latin band, nearly every day contained a musical mission. Most days consisted of travel by Blackhawk to entertain soldiers across Iraq. She was featured at many high-profile shows, including the farewell parties of General Ricardo Sanchez and Ambassador Paul Bremer. She also met and opened for Robin Williams, Ted Nugent and Toby Keith when their USO tours came through Baghdad.[1]

Though she has completed her active enlistment of 5 years, she continues to serve in the Maryland National Guard Band.

Campbell lives in the Baltimore metropolitan area and plays with her band, "The Election". The Election mainly plays shows in Maryland, D.C., and northern Virginia. The band started adding regional and national shows to their calendar this year, including Nashville, Austin, and Atlanta.

Quotes

“My Army career fine tuned me into a self-aware and objective musician. I learned to acknowledge my weaknesses so they could be fixed. When I got out, I knew I wanted to pursue music and continue with the skills the Army ingrained in me.”
-Corrin Campbell regarding what her time in the U.S. Army taught her. [3]

Reviews

"Finding an original sound in the female pop/rock world is a hard task, but it doesn’t seem that way for Corrin Campbell. Her music displays many sides of her natural talent as Campbell shifts from harder electric guitar rock to the softer side of piano ballads. She has successfully found her footing and one step at a time, is sure to reach to top of the mountain of musical success."
- Lisa Perron of Target Audience Magazine [4]

"'Exhibit A' is a CD with memorable tunes combined with appealing lyrics that you want to learn right away so you can sing along!"
- Alicia and the RadioIndy Review Team [5]

"If her eight-song EP, Exhibit A, is any indication, we’ll be hearing a lot more of Ms. Campbell in the coming years. Sweetly seductive vocals combine with girl-next-door good looks giver her an instant appeal for fans of the current crop of twenty-something female hitmakers. But it is her ability to turn of a phrase that lifts her above the crowd."
