Guy Debord was born on December 28, 1931, the son of Paulette Rossi and Martial Debord. He was a member of the Lettrist International, Socialisme ou Barbarie and the Situationist International. He wrote the book Society of the Spectacle and Considération sur la société du spectacle.

Among many things he is known for publishing one of his books draped in sandpaper so that it would destroy other books placed next to it.

He committed suicide on November 30, 1994.
