Marianne Andrée Majerus (born September 5, 1956, in Clervaux, Luxembourg) is a garden and portrait photographer based in London. She is one of Europe's leading specialist garden photographers.[1] Daughter of Nicolas Majerus (heart specialist and politician) and Blanche Baron, she grew up in the town of Esch-sur-Alzette with her brother and sister. After taking her international baccalaureate at the Lycée Hubert Clément she left for England to further her studies. Whilst studying at the University of Essex, from where she graduated with two degrees one in Economics and the other in English Literature, she began exhibiting her work. After graduating she studied photography at the Polytechnic of Central London. She is married and has a son.
Her company, Marianne Majerus Garden Images, is one of the major providers of garden images to the media in the United Kingdom and worldwide. MMGI has evolved into a brand in its own right as it now represents the works of artists old and new such as Andrew Lawson, Steven Gunther, Fiona McLeod, Bennet Smith, Simon Meaker and Claire Takacs.
Works
Four portraits by Marianne Majerus are exhibited by the National Portrait Gallery (London): of Doris Lessing [2], Hugo Williams[3], Malcolm Bradbury [4]and Raffaella Barker.[5] Other works are held by the Arts Council of Great Britain and the Centre National de l'Audiovisuel in Luxembourg.[6] Other portraits include those of J.G. Ballard [7], Andrew Motion[8], Tony Harrison[9] and Baroness Ludford.
Her photos regularly appear in: Country Life, The Times, The Sunday Times Magazine, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, House and Garden, Homes and Gardens, The London Evening Standard, The RHS Garden Journal, The English Garden, Gardens Illustrated, Architektur und Wohnen, Femina a Ville Giardini. As well as many publications in America, Russia, Japan and Eastern Europe.
