Presented by Nanyang Siang Pau, the Award aims to provide an effective platform to benchmark successful SMEs and to encourage more SMEs to strive for excellence in today's ever-changing competitive globalized marketplace.

In response to the Government's call to support the development of high performance and resilient SMEs, the Golden Bull Award was conceived to help incubate and develop highly successful entrepreneurs in the long run, as well as to provide an effective platform for them to stand out from others and gain trust. Now into its 6th edition, Golden Bull Award is a testament to a rising trend of awareness and recognition towards the importance of SMEs in spearheading the continued economic growth of Malaysia.


The Objectives

Competition is the foundation upon which excellence is built. Golden Bull Award aims to: complement the efforts of the National SME Development Council in promoting and strengthening the coordinated development of SMEs across all sectors towards domestic-led growth of Malaysia. promote the development of SMEs as the Catalysts of economic growth and domestic investments, enabling them to resume the role as the growth engine of Malaysia. pay tribute to the winning SMEs for their hard-earned success and well-deserved recognition. instill a culture of benchmarking among SMEs and encourage them to learn the success formula from the winning SMEs. encourage more SMEs to increase their productivity and quality through modern management skills, ICT, research and development (R & D), human resources development, financial management, etc. equip SMEs in facing the challenges and opportunities arising from globalization and trade liberalization.


Award Categories.

Outstanding SMEs


Criteria : SMEs with annual sales turnover of RM5 million and above up to RM75 million in the last three financial years. For service and service related sectors, the maximum annual sales turnover is RM10 million in the last three financial years. No. of Winners : 100

Emerging SMEs

Criteria : SMEs with annual sales turnover below RM5 million in the last three financial years. No. of Winners : 20

Golden Bull International Cooperation Honorary Award

This Award is to recognize an international corporation for its collaboration with Malaysian SMEs in their growth and achievements, in particular the Golden Bull Award winners.


Judging Criteria

Evaluation of the companies' management and financial performance will be done by the world renowned public accountant and auditor Ernst & Young based on the following criteria:

Management outlook Vision and Mission Statements Corporate uniqueness and philosophy Projected plan to grow in the next 3 to 5 years Major innovations Market presence Information technology usage Operating profit before tax Sales turnover Profit growth over last three years Turnover growth over last three years All nominees will be judged by the following industry groupings and judging will be based on their performances within the grouping:

Real estate and construction Manufacturing Trading Telecommunications and ICT Service sector Others The final list of winning companies will be judged and endorsed by an independent panel of industry leaders.


How to qualify


Golden Bull Award is open to all Malaysian SMEs across different business sectors. All nominees will be judged fairly and equally. To quality for the entry, you:

need to be a Malaysian incorporated company must not be listed on any Stock Exchange must have an annual sales turnover as specified in each award category, i.e. SMEs with sales turnover below RM5 million will be contesting under the Emerging SMEs Award category; those equal to or above RM5 million up to RM75 million will be under the Outstanding SMEs Award category. For service and service-related sectors, the maximum annual sales turnover is RM10 million can either be a parent company or a subsidiary. If the parent company participates, all subsidiaries will not be eligible subsidiary of a listed company will be eligible winners from previous years are eligible to category; those equal to or above RM5 million up to RM75 million will be under the Outstanding SMEs Award category. For service and service-related sectors, the maximum annual sales turnover is RM10 million can either be a parent company or a subsidiary.
