Thanks for the advice and links Olaf - it's appreciated :-)Regarding having this account renamed, I would like to do that if possible. Can you point me in the right direction? I will continue to add notable references to this article as they arise - it's a very new production so there is not much written about it yet. I will also enlist the help of experienced editors in the future or request additions on the talk page. Thanks again. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by ElementDistribution (talk • contribs) 21:43, 16 November 2009 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

: Im going to remove the COI tag as I see no evidence of continued attempts to add non neutral promotional content to the article, or to keep out any valid negative perspective. Element - i suggest it might be an idea if you didnt edit articles directly when your company has a stake in them. Instead if you put new info together with sources on the talk page, uninvolved editors will add it for you. It will probably be quicker for you that way as you wont have to worry about integrating and formatting the info. BTW welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks! I won't update the article going forward but will place additional information here on this talk page when it arises. Thanks to all for input on the deletion discussion and the editing work on the article. Revision as of 00:24, 26 November 2009
This article was nominated for deletion on 16 November 2009 (UTC). The result of the discussion was keep. |
Got the note re: conflict of interest - apologies if I have breached any rules - the aim of the article is to provide information on a new film in production by our production company. It is not intended to advertise a product or promote/sell any product or service. Can you advise what changes I need to make to avoid deletion? Thanks. ElementDistribution (talk) 19:36, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed the deletion tag from the article since it seems clear that it's not purely promotional in its current state.
- Another concern is notability. To qualify for an article a topic should have been the subject of significant coverage in sources like newspapers or books which are independent of it (i.e. unlike a press release from the production company). I've done a quick Google search and found some sources which I'll add to the article now, but feel free to list any more you know of. (See the notability guidelines for more about notability.)
- Regarding conflict of interest: editing where you have a COI is strongly discouraged but not exactly banned - and given that you didn't know the rule you shouldn't be worried about having breached it. A good idea is to suggest any additions to the article on this talk page, or ask another editor, so that someone can check that what you're writing is unbiased. Or you could work on changes at a user sub-page like User:ElementDistribution/The Guard and ask an experienced editor to move it to the article when you're ready. Being completely open about the COI, as you have with your username, is good too.
- Finally, regarding your username: Wikipedia accounts are only supposed to be used by individual people, not by groups. As a result usernames based on companies or other organisations are not allowed (see here). I'd recommend creating a new account with a different name, discontinuing the old one, and leaving a note on both their user pages explaining that they're both the same person (so no-one accuses you of trying to hide anything later on - see WP:Sockpuppetry). If you're attached to the current account it's also possible to have it renamed instead.
- I hope all those policies aren't too daunting - I know Wikipedia can seem a little Byzantine at first. Please feel free to let me know on my talk page if there's anything at all I can help you with. And thank you for deciding to contribute to Wikipedia; we do appreciate it!
