Ivor Browne used ketamine in an experimental regression treatment programme which he ran in St. Brendan's Hospital, Grangegorman, in the early 1990s. He subsequently shred all the records relating to this therapeutic practice.This action was criticised by the Informaton Commissioner. Browne defended his position on the basis that many of the patients involved had history of abuse and trauma he felt that to protect their privacy he had no choice than to destroy the documents upon his retirement in the 1990s. He also stated that the records might have become available to administrators and psychiatrists who might not have been sympathetic towards the treatment. St. Brendan's Hospital, Grangegorman, Dublin
St. Brendan's Hospital, Grangegorman, Dublin is the oldest public asylum in Ireland. It was also the largest asylum in the state with a combined population from its two main branches at Grangegorman and Portrane of approximately 4,000 at its zenith. It first received patients in 1817 when it opened its doors as the Richmond Asylum.
