The ZFI has published numerous monographs and lectures. This included among others Theodor Oberländer, Helmut Joachim Fischer, Erich Schwinge, Hans Raschmann, Dirk Bavendamm, Karl Otto Braun, Dirk Kunert, Klaus Hornung and Hermann Arnold. While most publications and lectures did not meet scientific standards, Wolfgang Hänels critique of Hartmut Rauschniggs account of conversations with Adolf Hitler, in which Hänel proved that Rauschnigg had exaggerated the intimacy of his relation to Hitler, was well received in academe.

The ZFI is regarded as one of the intellectual centers of far right historical revisionism in Germany.
