During the Final Play in 1962, Tekle paid a remarkable score to equalize Egypt after half time (1-1) where Egypt was temporarily leading 1-0. Then encouraged by Tekle´s support and his important goal his team mates followed suit and won the Final (2-2 by Luciano Vassallo, 3-2 by Italo Vassallo and 4-2 by Mengistu Worku). Ethiopia couldn´t repeat this great success and win a African Cup of Nations a second time untill present day.

Tekle Kidane (born 30 August 1939 in Asmara / Eritrea (Abashawl)) is a former football player. In early days, Tekle (Nickname: Tekle Silki) played among the best international (Eritrean) football players with former National Football Team of Ethiopia.
