The Westdene Dam Disaster was a bus accident that took place in Westdene , Johannesburg in South Africa on the 27th of March 1985. The driver of the bus lost control and the bus crashed through barriers into the Westdene dam. The bus was transporting scholars from the local high school (Hoerskool Vorentoe[1]). After the crash chaos ensued and bystanders tried to save as many of the children as possible. In the end 42 children were killed in the accident. Most of the children would have probably drowned as the impact of the bus crashing was not that great.
