Ferhat-paša Sokolović (d.1586) was one of the founding fathers of Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Born into the famous Bosnian Serb family which, among others, also gave the Ottoman Grand Vizier Mehmed-paša Sokolović and Archibishop Makarije who was the Serb Orthodox Patriarch of Peć. Ferhat-paša was one of the founders of the Banja Luka’s town core, where he built over 200 buildings ranging from artisan and sales shops to wheat warehouses, baths and mosques. Among more important commissions were the Ferhadija and Arnaudija mosques during which construction a plumbing infrastructure was laid that served surrounding residential areas.
