In World War II Nazi Germany established brothels in the concentration camps for sexual gratification of collaborating prisoners (Lagerbordell). The prostitutes working there came from the Ravensbrück concentration camp, to which women were brought for being prostitutes.

The first camp brothel was established in Mauthausen/Gusen in 1942. Since June, 30. 1943 a camp brothel existed in Auschwitz, since Juli, 15. 1943 in Buchenwald. On 25. March, 25. 1944 Flossenbürg followed, sping 1944 Neuengamme, May Dachau, Dora-Mittelbau in late summer an Sachsenhausen on August, 8. 1944.[1]

The subject of camp prostitution has remained largely taboo in studies of Nazism until recently, when new publications by female researchers broke the silence.[2][3]

The SS allured the women with the easement of imprisonment. This caused envy among the women. Nina Michailovna, camp prisoner, reported:

“When we came to know, that a girl of our block was chosen, we caught her and through a blanket on her and beat her up, so she couldn’t move anymore. It wasn’t sure, if she would recover. They just wanted to have a better life and we punished them this way.”[4]

The popular view on the german brothels in the concentration camps is influenced by the fictional nazi exploitation-films as Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS, Last Orgy of the Third Reich, Love Camp 7, SS Experiment Camp or Nazi Love Camp 27.[5]

The Israelian view on the subject was shaped by Yehiel De-Nur alias K. Tzetnik's book The House of Dolls and Stalag fiction, fictional literature on the holocaust.[6] [7]

The Wehrmacht also took over already established brothels in occupied europe to use them for their soldiers (Wehrmachtsbordell).
