Bolsa Grande High School is part of the Garden Grove Unified School District in southern California. The school opened in the spring of 1959.

Proximate zones to the school include Little Saigon, Korean District, Santa Ana. The school is known for increasingly improved academics.

Athletics

Bolsa Grande's sports teams are known as the Matadors, and compete in the Garden Grove League of the California Interscholastic Federation's Southern Section with five other GGUSD schools.

The Matador football team won the CIF Central Division championship in 1996 led by coach Greg Shad, but struggled immensely thereafter. They suffered an Orange County record 57 consecutive losses from 1999 to 2005.

The track & field team also boasts commendable accomplishments. In 2005, the Boys’ Varsity won their first league championship for the first time in Bolsa Grande history. Prominent athletes were hurdler Jason Bui, jumper Chris Nguyen, long distance runners Rocio Pelayo and Joel Santana, and sprinters Alan Ta and Jake Stovall. The team was undefeated and maintained this streak during the following year, hence overthrowing their long-time rivals, the Pacifica Mariners. The matadors were led by head coach Korey Dickson, whose disciplinary policies were as tough as his physical and dietary demands on them. Whereas spectators feared him, the team members venerated his character as inspirational and necessary for shaping their mental and physical potency.

Distinguished School

Bolsa Grande has just recently been recognized as a distinguished school in California. Bolsa will remain a distinguished school until 2011. Bolsa was one of few schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District to receive this title.

The Bolsa Grande Choral Department is led by director Mr. Jimmy Keltner. The Choral Department consists of four groups (in order from beginning to advanced): beginning girls group known as Girl's Ensemble, beginning boys group known as Varsity, large combined group known as Vocal Ensemble and a bigger combined group known as Concert Choir. The top group, Concert Choir, is often asked to sing at important functions. Every Spring, Concert Choir goes to Universal Studios Hollywood to compete, and consistently come back with the top prize year after year. Also, the entire department goes to a festival hosted by the theme park Knott's Berry Farm, and, like Concert Choir. Also at the end of the school year, the students show off their skills by singing, dancing, and sometimes acting in the annual Pop Concert.
