Marysville High School is a public high school in Marysville, Michigan. Its enrollment is about 900 students, and its athletic mascot is the Viking. There will be a new Marysville High School built in the near future, with a finish date set at 2010, making the class of the same year the last to graduate from the current Marysville High School. Many of the girls here have trouble not cheating on their boyfriends.

Sports

Marysville has a history of successful sport teams, especially in volleyball, football, and, recently, softball.

The Marysville Viking Regiment has been in the top 10 in the state for more than a decade, placing fifth in the 2007-08 school year.

The once-legendary football team plays at Walt Braun Viking Stadium at the corner of Michigan and Collard.(A pun on Detroit Tigers Stadium being at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull).

Marysville has been the "Home of the Vikings" since 1950. From 1950 to 2003, Marysville had the Highest Winning Percentage and Highest Number of Wins in the state of Michigan.

Softball

Marysville holds the state championship for 1983. From 2005-2007 they have won 3 consecutive district titles. In 2007 the team made it to the State Semi-Finals, in which they had the area's top catcher and pitcher.

Volleyball

The Volleyball team has won the Michigan Volleyball State Championship in every year from 1997 to 2006, with the exception of 2005. The Volleyball team has won nine of the last ten Volleyball State Championships. This includes a streak of eight State Championships in a row, which is also a record in the state of Michigan. Coach John Knuth has lead the volleyball team to 20 District Championships in a row and 19 Regional Championships in a row. This streak is still active.

The Volleyball team also holds a national record for the longest winning streak, in any sport. From 1996-2000, the Marysville Viking Volleyball team won 192 games in a row.

Cheerleading

The cheer team was named first in the MCCA State Championship in 2003 under Coach Laura Breidenich. This is different, however, than the MHSAA State Championship, because for a time Michigan held two separate state championships for high school cheerleading in different formats.

Football

The Football team has won a total of three State Championships: 1992 (MHSAA Class B); 1986 (MHSAA Class B); 1961 (AP Class B).

Marysville holds the state of Michigan's longest streak of Consecutive Winning Seasons, at 39. This winning streak started in 1963 and lasted until 2004.

1983 State Champion Football

Marysville's undefeated 1983 team is considered to be the best football team that has ever played in St. Clair County, Michigan. During interviews, coach Braun said "1983 team is by far the most talented team he ever coached."

The statistics have been best of St. Clair county of the 1983 Marysville football teams. The 1983 team finished the season with an undefeated record of nine wins and zero losses. The team shut out six of their nine opponents, and the starting defense never gave up a first-half touchdown. The 1983 team outscored its opponents by a staggering 21.75:1 ratio. The 1983 Viking Football team scored an amazing 435 points during a nine-game season, and allowed only 20 points to be scored against them. No team scored more than one touchdown against the 1983 Marysville Vikings, and the starting offense never punted.

The 1983 team is considered a part of the Marysville Football legend, because the 1983 team finished the regular season undefeated, yet failed to make the playoffs due to flaws that have since been corrected in the Michigan High School Athletic Associate playoff system. At the end of the 1983 season, when the playoffs came to an end, the legendary 1983 Marysville Viking football team was ranked #1.

The 1983 Marysville Vikings are the only team in the history of the MHSAA to be ranked #1 in the AP Poll at the end of the regular season, remain undefeated throughout the course of the playoffs, yet not win the state championship. As a result, the 1983 Marysville Vikings are referred to as the "Mythical State Champions." This is the 25th anniversary of the Marysville Viking football team. Marysville football fans have recently started a petition saying that. Marysville Schools are planning to place the 1983 football team listed next to the 1961, 1986, and 1992 football champions at the new football stadium.

Soccer

The Soccer program has not been all that beneficial to the High School until it's 2008-2009 school year. The soccer season for this school, which started in late July was very successful for its first time in many years. During this season, the Viking Soccer Team went 9-2-5 (both losses being out of league) meaning their division total was 9-0-5, leaving them undefeated.

The Viking's Soccer team was evenly balanced. With a devastating defense, to an optimistic offense, they clearly deserved the title of division champs.

However, the Vikings faced a tough loss. During their Division I Game, they beat Lapeer West 1-0. They went on in the District bracket, and played North Branch. After a fierce game with many bad officiating calls, the Vikings lost, 1-0.

The Vikings will be taking a blow for 2009-2010 soccer season, as they're going to lose eight seniors, seven of which were starters.

The cross country team has had a great year with three runners making it to states, Shelby Petersen, Jenae Curley, and Kelly Warsinske. Coached by Rogers.

Marysville Viking Regiment

The Marysville Viking Regiment is the high school's band program, which is made of sophomores, juniors and seniors [1]. Freshmen also compete like the regiment, but as a separate entity, known as the "Marysville Freshmen Marching Band". Marching band; jazz band; pep band; and concert band is all under the direction of Mr. Dennis Duso. He is the instructor for Marysville Middle School bands as well. Dennis Duso also serves as the president of MSBOA District 16 (St. Clair and Macomb Counties).

The Viking Regiment is conducted by three drum majors. A senior drum major, an assistant to the senior drum major, and a junior drum major who will take the place of the senior the following year. The band is also broken down into sections, with one senior band member as the section leader. They are responsible for instructing "sectionals" every week during marching band season.

Marysville's band program is one of the most successful bands in the state. For the past 12 years, the Viking Regiment has been ranked one of the top 10 bands in the state of Michigan. The Viking Regiment is a class B band, while the Freshmen Band is class D since it is a secondary band Michigan School Band and Orchrasta Association. Both the Regiment and Freshmen Band march together at Disney World (every 3 years), America's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit, local parades, festivals, and football games.

During concert season, many band members participate in District Solo and Ensemble, with some of them moving on to State Solo and Ensemble. The band program has jazz band available to students in addition to concert band.

2009-2010 Marching Season

In 2009, the Marysville Viking Regiment competed in the MCBA (Michigan Competing Band Association) with their show, "The Fight for Freedom", a tribute to the armed forces. They received record scores at competitions across the state. The regiment also received a division 1 (excellent) at MSBOA district 16 marching band festival.

The Marysville Freshman Marching Band featured a "Sesame Street" show, and also received a division 1 (excellent) at MSBOA festival.

On November 7, 2009, at MCBA state finals in Ford Field, the Viking Regiment took 2nd place in the state of Michigan with "The Fight for Freedom". This is the highest they have ever finished in state finals, and at 80.5, they are proud to have earned the highest score in school history.

The Marysville Viking Regiment participated in America's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan.

In March 2010, The Marysville Viking Regiment traveled to Walt Disney World to perform in "Disney's Magic Music Days", which included a workshop on professional musicianship, and a parade in Magic Kingdom. This was the 8th time the bands went on tour to Disney World.
