Menntaskólinn á Egilsstöðum (often abbreviated ME; official name in English: Egilsstaðir secondary school) is a gymnasium (Icelandic: Menntaskóli) in the Eastfjords Iceland
Menntaskólinn á Egilsstöðum was founded in 1979. The first yers the school was housed in the boarding school building, which in turn was built in 1983. The official teaching building was opened in 1989, and in 2006 the building was expanded.
School students are now well on the fourth hundred, including about 300 in day courses. The boarding house accommodates about 120 students.

The Freshmen Day
One day in the first weeks of school is a special day for newcomers (Icelandic: busadagur), this day is held in all junior colleges in the country and is not only the tradition of Menntaskólinn á Egilsstöðum, although the traditions regarding this day vary greatly between schools. The day starts with the seniors dressing up and painting their faces. The seniors then march around the school and gather the newcomers out to the school grounds where they are made to obey the senior students, serving them as well as the scool staff. A tradition in ME is to make the freshmen eat green porridge, and then having them going through a obstacle course resembling a miliary training course. The following night a freshmen ball is held.

Barkinn, the annual song contest
One of the biggest events in the social calander of the school, is Barkinn, the anual song contest of ME. Where students perform a song, wich is judged by a jury, and the winner will participate in the annual National junior college song contest (Söngvakeppni framhaldsskólanna).

Debating
ME is a member of Mælsku- og rökræðukeppni framhaldsskóla á Íslandi (MorfÍs, The Icelandic Junior College Debating Society), which holds an annual debating competition between Icelandic junior colleges.
Quizzing
ME has participated in the quiz Gettu bettur. The best performance of the school is semifinals in 2010.
