Marvin Zukerman of the University of Delaware[1] has spent more than 20 years researching the personality trait he has come to call "sensation seeking." His work indicates that sensation-seeking is one of a handful of "core traits" that can be used to describe human personality. Furthermore, he presents convincing evidence that this characteristic has a strong genetic component nearly as strong as that for intelligence. So, sensation-seeking parents are likely to have sensation-seeking children.
