Sinop (11°51′S 55°28′W / 11.85°S 55.46°W / -11.85; -55.46) is a city in the Mato Grosso state of Brazil. The city was founded in 1974 and has become one of the most important cities in the state. The city has an estimate population of 115,000 people in 2009.

Today is a city that is a center of reference throughout the Northern Mato Grosso, with regard to health, education, industry, commerce, recreation and other areas.

Its main economic activity is services provision with great emphasis also to the agricultural sector, cultivation of grain and timber industry. Access to the city is done by land, by the BR-163 road and by air, by the airport of Sinop.
