After winning a 2009 Indie Excellence finalist award,[3] Ridan Publishing released a second version of the book in October 2009.[4]

Todd began his professional career as a regulatory affairs specialist in the medical device industry working for a pacemaker/defibrillator manufacturer, Intermedics Inc., which had been headquartered in Angleton, Texas. Todd worked there from 1992 to 1995. He subsequently moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1995 to work for Medtronic – the world’s largest medical device manufacturer. Todd held positions in Regulatory Affairs, Reliability Engineering, and Clinical Research in Medtronic’s Cardiac Rhythm Management, Neuromodulation, and most recently Cardiovascular divisions. At present, Todd is the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Medtronic’s Structural Heart business in the cardiovascular division headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 1992, Todd married Joanne Marie Manders. They have four children: Aaron James Fonseca (who inspired the book and the main character’s name), Justin Anthony Fonseca, Ryan Joseph Fonseca, and Nathan Michael Fonseca.

Todd also serves as the Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack 606 in Anoka, MN.

Since college, Todd had been writing short stories and the beginnings of various novels. Most were science fiction. A number of years later, he wrote a children’s picture book entitled "Curly Carla" about a young girl who watched too much television. He attempted to get the book published but was met with a number of rejections and abandoned the project.

Todd continued to write bits of novels over the years but never finished anything until 2006 when he learned of NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month http://www.nanowrimo.org/

The idea behind this site was to encourage authors to write everyday to reach 50,000 words in one month without judging their work. He participated in the program and wrote a little over 50,000 words of The Time Cavern though, at the time, the working title was The Cavern under the Tree. Over the next six months Todd finished the entire first draft. For the next year or so he worked the rewrites and hired an editor to help him clean it up. He considered having it published, but thought he would self publish and sell a few copies to family and friends.

Due to the encouragement of early readers, an October 2008 feature of the month on flamingnet.com and unexpected Amazon sales, he submitted the book to the Indie Excellence awards and received a finalist award in the Young Adult category although the book is more juvenile fiction (ages 9-12).

After receiving this award, Todd was contacted by Ridan Publishing (www.ridanpublishing.com) who was interested in reworking the book (title, layout, editing) and taking him on as an author. The Ridan version of the book was subsequently published in October 2009. Over a period two months, sales rose steadily and in the month of December 2009 the book sold over 1000 copies. Book two in the series is almost complete and should be released in late 2010 or early 2011.
