Pedro Almodóvar has described his fourth film as a homage to Italian Neorealism, although predictably for Almodovar this tribute also involves jokes about paeodophilia, prostitution, and a telekenetic child. ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer ésto? (What Have I Done To Deserve This?) is set in the soulless towerblocks around Madrid, depicting female frustration snd family breakdown, echoing Jean-Luc Godard's Two or Three Things I Know About Her but in Almodovar's unique approach to filmmaking.
