Tim Mathieson, is professionally a hair colour sales person. He rose to fame after he started dating Julia Gillard, the then Deputy Prime Minister of Australia in March 2006.[1]

On the 25th of June 2010 Ms Gillard became the Prime Minister of Australia. This makes Mathieson the closes thing Australia has to a "first man".

Early life

Mr Mathieson grew up in rural Australia. He has a child from a teen relationship and was once involved in a drink-driving incident.[2]

Marriage, family

When asked about marriage, Mr Mathieson said "We haven't talked about anything more than being spouses at this stage. Wait and see, I guess."[3]

Political views

Mathieson is on record for supporting his partner's run for Prime Minister of Australia. "She [Julia Gillard] will absolutely be a fantastic prime minister," he told Melbourne's Herald Sun.

Career

Grace Romanin, manager of trendy Fitzroy salon Heading Out, said Mr Mathieson worked there for a year but left an impression on the staff. "He was a very bubbly guy - he did styling - cutting and blow drying," Romanin told AAP. [4]

After leaving Heading Out, Mr Mathieson became a hair colour sales person.

Controversies

"He doesn't interfere with anything and I don't think he will ever change," she said.[5]

Philanthropy

On the November 24, 2008 Health Minster Nicola Roxon appointed Mathieson as one of the government's men's health ambassadors. Mr Mathieson won't be paid for the job. However, he will have reasonable travel costs reimbursed by the government. Mr Mathieson is on record as saying he is “passionate” about his volunteer role. [6]
