Margo Rey

Margo Rey (born 17 October 1966 in Acapulco, Mexico), known professionally as Margo Rey and/or Miss Margo [3]), is a singer-songwriter.

Since her performance on the Dr. Phil show [4]) , Margo has received much recognition with the release of her critically acclaimed 2008 album My Heart’s Desire.[5] Her dance single “Habit” reached number one on the Perfect Beat Dance Charts, after debuting in the top 10; surpassing Lady Gaga and RuPaul.[6] Margo Rey will debut another dance single “You Belong to Me” before the release of her second album.

She is currently working on her follow-up album, Saturn Returns, scheduled for release later this year.[7] This album will have Jazz and Pop roots and features a track co-written by Margo Rey and John Oates of Hall & Oates fame and the songwriter of over 10 #1 hits.[8]

Career

Margo Rey was born in Acapulco, Mexico and grew up in Dallas, Texas. She was raised close to the Dallas music scene, and began performing at the age of 11. [9] Margo’s musical training was in classical voice, harmony study, and ear training – even competing in classical pieces in college. [10] She is able to sing in six languages and has performed in 10 countries. [11] Margo has also been the lead singer in Debutante – an all female rock band.[12] Margo became a popular commercial vocalist for Juniper Music (IMAX, Tabasco, McDonalds). [13] She has been the voice in many TV commercials and national advertising for the likes of American Airlines, Dillards, Frito-Lay and PepsiCo; performing in both English and Spanish. [14] She also has been the voice in animated movies, including the 2008 film Beverly Hills Chihuahua. [15] Margo as a Jazz/Pop singer began as a dare, while dining one evening, she was coaxed into performing, prompting the venue’s owner to hire her immediately. .[16] Margo has performed with many well-respected musicians in the Jazz and Pop community including Roy Hargrove, James Clay, Cy Coleman, Earl Harvin and Earl Klugh. [17])

She has described her musical style as "organica – an unorthodox hybrid of Pop that is deeply rooted in Jazz with thick, ethno-rhythmic grooves created by humans, not machines, and textured with lush vocals, keys and ambient guitar arrangements”. [18]

Margo Rey is currently signed with Organic Music Group (distributed through Universal Music Group) – a record label venture between Ron White and former President of 2K/Virgin Records Music Division and 5-time Grammy nominee, Michael Blakey. [19]
