Ryan Star

Ryan Star, also known as r.star (born January 7, 1978) is a singer-songwriter and musician. He was also a reality television contestant on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova.

Biography

Star was born Ryan Star Kulchinsky in Huntington, Long Island, New York and grew up in Dix Hills. He was 14 years old when he formed his first band called Stage. They released a handful of EPs, and in 2003 a self-titled album on Maverick Records. While still in high school, the band played CBGB's and the Mercury Lounge. When the band parted ways, Star became the solo artist R.Star.

Star was one of the contestants on the CBS reality television show of the second season of Rock Star. The show was a talent show type reality series in which the band Supernova was looking for a lead singer to front their supergroup. The show's producer and the drummer of the band was Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe. On the show, Ryan consistently showed his diverse style from melodic and moving piano to rocking. During his run on the show, he was nicknamed Ryan "The Darkhorse" Star by show commentator Dave Navarro.

He was eventually eliminated from the show. Days after his elimination, Mark Burnett, the show's producer, set up Ryan and the show's House Band to record a live album, to help Ryan jump start his career.[1] Star returned to the show on week 11 with the help of his fans through SMS voting, to perform an encore performance of "Back of Your Car", and was awarded with a Honda CR-V.

Atlantic Records released an EP on June 16, 2009 of four songs to appear on Star's album. Star's first studio album since Rockstar: Supernova will be entitled 11:59 and is scheduled to be released in July 2010.[2] The release has since been postponed to August 3, 2010.

Star opened for David Cook's The Declaration Tour - 2009.[3] Star also sang "In Your Eyes" with the Backstreet Boys at a show in Napa, CA in April 2010 and is a semi-regular musical guest on the Opie and Anthony XM Satellite Radio show.

Star briefly made news in September of 2009 when a driver revealed to reporters that Starr never goes anywhere without his pet cat, Sir Tinsel-face. "Not anywhere," the driver claimed in a September 9, 2009 piece in the NEW YORK TIMES culture section. "He even takes him in the bathroom. He really loves that cat, God love him.[4]"
