Skytone

Skytone is an independent Canadian pop/rock band formed in Ottawa, Ontario in 2003. Rodney Doddridge is on lead guitar, vocals, and drums. He is joined by brother Darius Doddridge on bass and vocals. Their music, although heavily influenced by The Beatles, has often been compared with many other bands including Sloan (band), Badfinger, Coldplay and The Wondermints.

History

Rodney and Darius Doddridge grew up playing music together. Over time, they developed a catalogue of songs that they co-wrote. Naturally, they wanted to record all of these pop gems.

The result was their debut album "Pat's Ugly Yellow Dress" (1996), recorded under the band name Garrison Finish. The Doddridges were joined by drummer Steve "Chunkk" Neilson. A second album followed, "Inside These Four Walls" (1998) under new band name The Mudpouts. Neilson left the band, later joining Nick Danger and the Danger City Rebels.

The Doddridge brothers decided to change their name to Tremolo. In July of 2002, they won a local battle of the bands at Ottawa's Gloucester Fair. Later that year, they released the 4-song ep "All My Friends" which launched Wally Salem's fledgeling Ottawa-based label The Beautiful Music. This time they were joined by bassist Terry O'Reilly and drummer Nolan Rawlings. Both Rawlings and O'Reilly parted ways with the band. Terry O'Reilly, like Steve Neilson, eventually joined Nick Danger and the Danger City Rebels, also on the TBM label.

Skytone

In 2003 the brothers decided to perform as a duo, changing their name to Skytone. They released the album "Echoes In All Directions" in 2005. Album tracks "Lindbergh", "The New York Song" and "Just a Little Attention" have proven popular on campus radio charts. They have also appeared on CBC Radio 3.

In the spring of 2008, Skytone won the regional final of the Canadian Radio Star National Songwriting Competition for the song "String of Pearls".

In late 2008 they began recording a new album, tentatively titled Light and Shade. As of 2010, they are still recording and fine-tuning the sound of the album.

Skytone released their second album entitled "Shining Over You" on July 21, 2010, through iTunes Canada.
