Beauty & the Briefcase is an ABC Family television film that originally aired on April 18, 2010.[1] Based on the novel Diary of a Working Girl by Daniella Brodsky,[2] the film stars Hilary Duff as a fashion journalist who works undercover to write an article on dating businessmen.

Plot

Lane Daniels has a growing career and has a great future ahead of her as a writer. But when a pitch goes well at Cosmopolitan Magazine, set up by her friend, she is given the chance of a lifetime to write an article for them about dating men in suits. To complete this task, she must go undercover and date the guys at the office she meets plenty, some nice, some not! After every date she writes it all down to help her final piece. Problems on the way include meeting the perfect guy who is not in a suit and everyone finding out what she has really been doing.

The Checklist

Lane, throughout her life, has made a checklist for the things she expects her "soulmate" or "perfect guy" to have. In the movie, the checklist sometimes drives her away from the guys that are right for her and drives her to the guys that are wrong for her.

Production

In August 2009, ABC Family announced that Hilary Duff would star in an upcoming romantic comedy for the network, which was initially titled The Business of Falling in Love.[3] The movie is based on the book Diary Of a Working Girl by Daniella Brodsky, and was adapted for TV by writer Mike Horowitz. In addition to starring, Duff executive produced the film alongside Frank von Zerneck, Robert Sertner, Ira Pincus, and Jessica Horowitz.

The movie had a very good rating reaching the 2.4 million of spectators in the April 18th night.

Filming occurred in late 2009, with portions shot in New York City in October, and New Orleans, Louisiana in November.[4][5]

Gil Junger directed the two-hour original movie. Junger is familiar to ABC Family; he currently works on the ABC Family series 10 Things I Hate About You that launched in July 2009. He also directed one of ABC Family's highest-rated original movies of 2009, another romantic comedy My Fake Fiance.

The movie marks a collaboration between ABC Family and Cosmopolitan magazine, which is featured in the film.[6]

A DVD release of the film has no release date as of right now, but the fans have been requesting it.
