Janette Turner Hospital (née Turner) (born Melbourne, Australia, 12 November 1942) is a novelist and short story writer who has lived for most of her adult life in Canada or the U.S., principally Boston (Massachusetts), Kingston (Ontario) and Columbia (South Carolina).[1] She is also a teacher of literature and creative writing and has been writer-in-residence at universities in Australia, Canada, England, and the US (MIT, Boston University, Colgate.) She is currently a temporary adjunct in the MFA program at Columbia University.[2] She studied at the University of Queensland and Kelvin Grove Teachers College, gaining a BA in 1965.[3] She holds an MA from Queen's University, Canada, 1973,[4] and a D.Litt (Hon) from University of Queensland, Australia, for "services to Australian Literature.)[5] She has won a number of international literary awards and her books are published in multiple foreign translations.[6]
