A fictional book is an imaginary book that does not itself exist, but is referred to in an actual book, usually a work of fiction. The fictional book may provide the basis of the plot of a story, or a common thread in the works of a particular writer, a series of books, or a canon of work. A fictional book may also be used as a conceit to illustrate a story within a story.

Fictional books should not be confused with books that are works of fiction, such as novels and short stories, that actually exist, but are works of imagination, not fact.
