I was born in Austin, but moved with my parents to Houston soon after being born! I grew up in Houston, although we lived for a year in Oak Ridge, Tennessee before I was three. We first lived in West University Place, attending Kindergarten, First Grade, and the beginning of Second Grade at Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School. Then we moved to Meyerland, where my parents still live, and I attended Edgar Odell Lovett Elementary School, Albert Sydney Johnston Junior High School, and Bellaire Senior High School. I went to Rice University in Houston and lived in Cambridge, England for a year at Trinity College, Sir Isaac Newton's old stomping grounds, as a C.D. Broad Exchange Scholar. I got a Ph.D. in High-Energy Theoretical Particle Physics at The Rockefeller University in Manhattan, New York. My thesis advisers were Heinz Pagels, Mirza Abdul Baqi Beg, and David Calloway. I did a two-year postdoc at the High Energy Theory Group at Brookhaven National Laboratory, formerly the U.S. Army's Camp Upton, on Long Island, studying instanton effects on Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) under the watchful eye of Bill Marciano.
