The second volume - The Mapping of North America II: A List of Printed Maps 1670 -1700 - is now available. In addition to covering the period of 1670 to 1700 it includes several additions to the period covered by the first volume. The first volume has been around since 1996 and it considered by most to be the ULTIMATE reference in this area. No doubt the second volume will assume a similar role in the field of cartobibligraphy. In addition to being an expert, Philip is a true gentleman and has inherited both personal assets from his late father, Clive A. Burden, who founded a firm in the 1960s in which he served as both a source of antiquarian maps and prints to the trade and as a valued guide in helping both individuals and institutions building coherent collections.

An enthusiastic sportsman, Philip rides out twice a week with the Quorn Hunt throughout the season as well as being the mainstay of several local shoots. A memorable recent bag consisted of 42 brace of pheasants, two and half brace of snipe, a golden retriever and two beaters, the latter a particularly tricky "left and a right" in failing light.

Philip's other great love is ballroom dancing. With his long flowing locks and his sequinned tuxedo, he is a familiar and distinctive sight at International Map Collector's social events, with his displays of the foxtrot, the tango and his signature dance, an impassioned pasodoble.
