James Stacy Barbour (born April 25, 1966 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey), a.k.a. James Barbour, is a singer and Broadway actor. He graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Acting and a minor in Philosophy.

Theatre credits

In late 2007, he performed the role of Sydney Carton in a world premiere pre-Broadway musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities at the historic Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida.[1]

Barbour was cast once more as Sydney Carton in the Broadway musical adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities, which opened for preview on August 19, 2008, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York.[2]

Solo career

James Barbour starred on Broadway in such Tony Award-winning and nominated such shows as Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Carousel, Jane Eyre (for which he was nominated for a Drama League Award), Urinetown, Stephen Sondheim's Assassins and A Tale of Two Cities (for which he was nominated for the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards).

Personal life

Barbour was born April 25, 1966 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA.

Barbour is married to fellow performer Dana Stackpole (born February 25, 1966).[11] The couple first met during the revival of Carousel at Lincoln Center, when Barbour took over the part of Billy Bigelow, and Ms. Stackpole played his daughter, Louise. They have one daughter named Hudson, born August 29, 2008.

He has attended, performed at, and even hosted Scientology based events,[12][13] such as the star-studded grand opening of their Mission in Santa Monica, CA,[14] and a Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) gala at the Beverly Wilshire in February 2006.[15]

James Barbour has been honored with the prestigious George M. Estabrook Award for distinguished service http://www.hofstra.edu/Alumni/Connect/connect_charter_gme.html as well as the Hofstra University Young Alumni Award for achievements in his field. Barbour has also given benefit concerts for his alma Mater Hofstra University[16]

In April 2006, Barbour was arrested and charged with sex abuse and sodomy for having inappropriate relations with a female minor five and half years prior.[17][18][19] In the Fall of 2006, he was indicted by a grand jury in New York for said crime.[20][21][22][23][24] In January 2008, Barbour pleaded guilty to two misdemeanour counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in exchange for a lesser sentence of 60 days in jail and three years probation. Also, in accordance with his plea bargain, Barbour made a public allocution to these misdemeanors.[25][26][27] Barbour began his sixty-day jail sentence at Rikers Island on February 29, 2008.[28]

Barbour has been an Artist Committee Board member of The Actors Fund Of America for many years[29] during which time he has performed many charitable fundraisers in support of the Fund and Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS.

In 2009 Barbour gave a benefit concert for The Actor's Fund Of America at Finesteins At The Regency. in New York City[30].
