He graduated from the Faculty of Communications of Istanbul University in 1990, and took his M.A. from the Faculty of Political Sciences of the same university upon his thesis on the Political Structure of the European Union. He also attended a graduate program on science fiction movies at the Department of Radio and Television of the Faculty of Communications.

He entered the media world in the newspaper "Günaydın" in 1988, and became Turkey’s one of the first private radio broadcasters, which began in early 1990s in Glasgow at the BBC as an intern. During the same period he also worked at The Herald, one of the most prestigious newspapers of Britain. Later he joined the staff to found "Hür FM", a Hürriyet Radio, and he produced shows for "Show Radio", "Genç Radio" and "NTV Radio". Since 1997 he is a columnist in the newspaper "Posta" and since 2005 he is the representative of the same paper in Ankara. He continued in producing radio and television shows and for three years he was the producer and presenter of the TV show “Weekend” of the TV channel "Haberturk", which, upon the death of founder, Ufuk Güldemir, was sold to Ciner Group. Later, since February 2008, he is the weekend moderator of the morning shows of the channel “Kanal 24”. He is also, since January 2010, a commentator of the program “Haber-Yorum” on TRT Radio 1, which is broadcasted during workdays, and he is a contributor and commentator for another TRT Radio 1 program “Gündem". He is active in music and he is the producer and the presenter of the music show “Tren Yolculuğu” on TRT Radio 3 on every Sunday evening.

Hakan Celik won a scholarship from the British Foreign Office and went to London in 1992, and he gave conferences in Germany, Japan and the U.S. upon invitations from these governments.

Until 2010 he made interviews with political and religious leaders of the world, including Cuban President Fidel Castro, Pope Benedictus the XVI and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. He travelled in more than 100 countries as a journalist and received awards from many institutions for his professional achievements.
