Sallaumines is a city of northern France, in the départment of Pas-de-Calais. It belongs to the community of agglomeration of Lens - Liévin which gathers 36 communes, and has a population of 250,000 inhabitants.
Population (1999): 10,677 inhabitants (Sallauminese).
The history of the area remains marked by the mining disasters known as of Courrières which made 1099 dead on March 10, 1906 on the territories of Billy-Montigny, Méricourt and Sallaumines.
