'''History'''

The concept for '''aisle411''' came about in October 2007 when Nathan was in a Big Box hardware chain and spent 20 minutes looking for a surge protector on his lunch hour. He was very frustrated it took so long to find it. As he was leaving the store, he saw another customer ask an associate for grommets, and the associate replied, "What's a grommet?" The customer left the store furious and yelling he had a limited amount of time and never can find help in the store when he needs it. Nathan had his light bulb idea. Upon sharing his concept with his family, his father-in-law recommended he speak with Matthew Kulig, a serial entrepreneur that he had invested with in another company. Nathan called Matthew in Dec 2007 and set up a meeting for January 2008.
At the meeting in January 2008, Nathan shared his concept and Matthew agreed to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Nathan to protect it. For three months, Matthew researched the market and spoke to many respected experts in his network about the concept and he could not find the concept available anywhere. So he called Nathan in March 2008 and told him that he would help him start the company and build the concept into a working product. They formed a corporation in April 2008, came up with name '''aisle411''' and worked to build the innovative new service. It launched in August 2009 in one store: Ace Hardware in Des Peres, MO.<ref>http://www.mobilemarketer.com/cms/news/commerce/3970.html</ref> It has since increased to more locations where the service is available, with the goal that the service be available in every store everywhere around the world someday.

Research has shown that 83% of consumers sometimes have a problem finding things in stores and that 67% of consumers would use a service like '''aisle411''' if it was available in the stores where they shop.

The company continues to work on its services launching a free iPhone app in November 2010 and a Mobile Website for smart phone browsers in December 2010 with other free apps coming in 2011.<ref>http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2010/10/18/story3.html?surround=etf&ana=e_article&b=1287374400^4094281</ref> <ref>http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/11/technology/11interior.html?_r=2&ref=technology</ref>

aisle411 Inc.

aisle411 Inc. is a St. Louis based company that has developed a consumer service called aisle411, that allows customers to use their phones to find products in stores. Founded in 2008 by Nathan Pettyjohn (Founder) and Matthew Kulig (Co-Founder), aisle411 was first to market (August 2009) with a mobile service that allowed consumers to search retail stores for product locations inside stores using their mobile phones.

The "aisle411" Service

aisle411 allows consumers with iPhones (Android and Blackberry apps are coming in 2011) to pull up a map pinpointing the aisle and location of the object of their desire in a particular store. Shoppers can also use the app to scan barcodes to read product reviews and find out about in-store discounts and promotions. "A sales associate can't be with you in every aisle, but your phone can be," said Nathan Pettyjohn, the St. Louis-based company's chief executive. The free aisle411 app went live in the iTunes store around Thanksgiving. Since then, it has been downloaded thousands of times. It has generated considerable buzz in the blogosphere. And the company has been inundated with hundreds of e-mails from around the country from people asking for the service to be expanded to their city. [1]
