The full name is MAJMA-UL-ULOOM,JAMIA-E-IMANIA,it was established as a Shia religious seminary (Hauza-e-Ilmiyyah) for extended Islamic studies and higher religious education on 15th,December 1866/1287 (A.H.) in the city of Banaras (Varanasi) India and was founded by Late Moulvi Khursheed Ali Khan a famous landlord of the time, on the proposal of Late Maulana Qaazi Syed Bande Ali Khan the Qaazi-ul-Quzaat (Islamic chief justice) of Banaras as a non-profit, charitable institution. According the book "HAQNUMA" and sevral religious magazines and many other sources it is the first and the oldest renowned academic center of Shia Muslims in the Indian sub-continent which is serving the community continuously since past 145 years.
