Peter Hargitai (born 1947 Budapest, Hungary) is a poet, novelist, translator of Hungarian literature, and lawyer.
Life
He grew up in Balástya, Hungary. He immigrated with his family after 1956. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Master of Fine Arts. He taught at University of Miami, and Umass Amherst.[1]
He is on the English faculty at Florida International University in Miami.[2][3]
Awards
- 1988 Academy of American Poets Landon Translation Award
- Fust Milan Prize from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
- Pro Cultura Hungarica Medal from the Republic of Hungary.
