The Lesser Evil is a noirish thriller that was released by MGM in 1998. The story involves four old friends reunite in a remote cabin to decide how to handle a murder investigation that is circling in on them. The story weaves back and forth between present day and flashbacks to twenty years ago when they covered up a murder. The four friends, played by Colm Feore, Arliss Howard, Tony Goldwyn, and David Paymer slowly turn on each other in an intricate game of psychological cat and mouse. Each man had a role to play in the murders they covered up, but only one of them has to plead guilty for the others to go free. The film uses the flashbacks to tell the story of the murder from each man's perspective. Intricately plotted, the film unfolds like a mystery parsing out clues.
