St Lawrence a Church of England church in the centre of the village of Chobham, Surrey.
St Lawrence church belongs to the parish of St Lawrence Chobham, Surrey and St Saviour Valley End, Surrey, which is in the Church of England Diocese of Guildford.
History
The current church building dates from about 1080[1] although there may have been an earlier church on the site.
St Lawrence is a grade I[2] listed building.[3]
The Porch
The wooden porch on the west entrance to the church is believed to have come from Chertsey Abbey after its suppression by Henry VIII in 1538.
The Clock Tower
The church tower was built in the 14 century.
The four-faced clock was added 1900 by the Vicar of that time.
The Wooden Font
St Lawrence has one of only three surviving wood fonts in Surrey. It was made in the 17th century.
The Bells
Unusually for a church of this size, there is a peal of eight bells. The oldest cast by William Culverden of London in 1520.
