Edit notices

What on Earth is the purpose of these?  Chzz  ►  05:36, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Look at Template:Editnotices/Namespace/Wikipedia talk. I'm creating blank edit notices to suppress that default namespace editnotice which is highly irrelevant and unhelpful. —James (TalkContribs)4:02pm 06:02, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can see some cases where you've done it where the namespace editnotice isn't quite right - but others, eg WT:ROLLBACK, are a bit odd. I've added instructions on hiding the notice per user. Can you remove some of the ones you did where the notice is appropriate? Rd232 talk 09:34, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I'm not sure if I should re-add it to the script/automated program talk pages since it's kinda stating the obvious on said pages. —James (TalkContribs)8:08pm 10:08, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've deleted the pages (plus some others where the notice is useful), as otherwise you don't get the CSS ID (that's not part of the template, it's part of the namespace editnotice). Rd232 talk 10:17, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Right thanks, I added them because I thought that the default editnotice wasn't very helpful. —James (TalkContribs)8:21pm 10:21, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't help there, or more generally? There's a parameter for adding text (using the template), and you're welcome to improve the template. Rd232 talk 11:00, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Anywhere, it was far too general. I'll see what I can do to try and improve it. —James (TalkContribs)9:13pm 11:13, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The cinema of Andhra Pradesh is the Telugu language film industry currently based in Hyderabad, Andra Pradesh, India. The industry is informally know with the name Telugu Cinema or Tollywood. The industry is second largest in India in terms of no.of films produced yearly and distribution. The industry is third largest in terms of Revenue.[1] The industry accounts for 1% of the gross domestic product of Andhra Pradesh[2]

The current lead is sufficient and your suggested revision lacks reliable sources. —James (TalkContribs)10:13am 00:13, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move proposal at 'Chink'

While I understand your motivation for closing the move proposal, I can't help feeling it was a little premature, and you seem to be adding your own arguments, rather than summarising other's comments in your closing post. This seems a little questionable, as it prevents others responding to your argument. Perhaps you should take another look?

I'd also suggest that you might want to rephrase this: "a spade's still a spade no matter what you call it". I'm sure it was entirely unintentional, but, to quote Wiktionary "spade... (offensive) A black person". [1] AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:53, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That was not my intention at all (the use of that phrase). I wasn't adding my own argument, it's my observation and summary of the arguments presented. Bard was predisposed to the article, a lot of the opposers were of the similar opinion and the outcome of the discussion was clear without doubt. —James (TalkContribs)10:07am 00:07, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimarkup lesson

I created a sandbox here. As you can tell, I've learned a lot about wikimarkup. I believe the copyright thing is the last item on the menu, so to speak. I'll take a look at it when I get more than just a few minutes on the computer (I have family over). TheTrainEnthusiast (talk) 23:47, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I'm impressed at how far you've come in these 2-3 weeks, you've learnt a lot of the basics. Your story is quite interesting, I'm sure it was tiring to have had to do all that! About that image, click on "Upload a new version of this file" on the file description page, I see you requested it's deletion, nevermind then. Sorry I didn't respond earlier. —James (TalkContribs)4:33pm 06:33, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
