History, what is it?

Recourse to the past to justify the present. Does this have be be causal? Does the creation of history come about simply because of a conflict? Can it be enlisted to maintain a status quo? The question of what is history (?) is dependent upon who is writing, who is reading and when the body of literature is being produced. Otherwise, the definition of history becomes anachronistic and subjective. </ref>
