Dani's House is a British BAFTA-nominated Series children's sitcom series that airs on CBBC, starring Dani Harmer.[1][2] The series premiered on 26 September 2008 and has so far ran for four series, with a fifth series filmed, and due to air in 2012.

Production

In early 2008, the BBC announced a new 13 part children’s sitcom, starring Dani Harmer. The first series was filmed throughout June and July 2008, entirely in Kent at a secret location near Maidstone. The series began airing on 26 September. Due to the show's popularity, a second series was renewed, and was filmed in early summer 2009, this time in Edinburgh. It aired from December of the same year. A third series was filmed the following summer in 2010, and aired from September to December of the same year. The first three series of Dani's House have been proven a hit, with a fourth and fifth series commissioned for broadcast in 2011 (of which filming is currently in progress) and 2012. The theme song for the series is Dani Harmer's first single, "Free". All 13 episodes from series 4 will premiere every Friday, from Friday 16 September 2011, at 5: 25 PM up until episode 13.

Series 5 began filming in June 2011. The actress playing Sam finished filming the 4th series and will not continue to be part of the show. The final episode of series 5 was filmed on 3 December 2011.

Plot

Harmer plays the eponymous lead role of a 17-year-old actress continually left in charge of her annoying younger brother Max, his none-too-bright sidekick Ben and their youngest sibling, "the baby from hell" (only used in series 1). As she cannot go out with her friends, Toby (later replaced by Jack) and Sam, the trio end up spending most of their time in Dani's house in a den hang-out.

From the second series Jack, is introduced and replaces Toby as a regular character and best friend of Dani. The house that was used in series one is not used in series two, due to the fact that Dani's family moved house in the final episode. The baby from hell from series one is not seen or mentioned in the second series and is supposedly replaced by the "cat from hell" who frequently comes into various episodes of the second series. The changes in series two occur in series three too and even series four.

Series four of the show premiered on CBBC on Friday 16 September 2011. This series sees Dani get a part in fictional soap opera 'McHurties Hospital', references to this are made throughout the series. Sam trains to be an astronaut and eventually leaves in episode 8, going on to become a scientist and space-explorer for NASA. 'Ruby', an enthusiastic sports trainer and 'Maisy', her annoying younger sister replace Sam, with Ruby going on to become Dani's best friend and Maisy the ultimate rival for Max. Like series 3, the 'cat from hell' is not seen nor mentioned in this series.

Series 5 has been filmed, and is due to air in Summer 2012. We have been told to expect "slight changes" in this series.

Note: Coordinators Zang and Zark are now sometimes referred to as Commanders rather than Coordinators.

Cast and Characters

Main Characters

Dani (Dani Harmer) 2008 - present: A 17-year-old actress and singer who has to look after her 12-year-old brother Max, and 6 month old baby brother. She regularly hangs out with her two best friends. Dani loves her little brother but can't help getting annoyed by his "evil" schemes, which often involve Dani being tricked into doing something she shouldn't. In the fourth series, Dani is seen playing the part of 'Nurse Emily Woodmagnet' in a TV drama series called "McHurties Hospital".

Jack (Darragh Mortell) 2009 - present: A DJ who lives near Dani. He was introduced in Series 2 Ep 1, replacing Toby. He likes cooking with strange ingredients but in the end it's delicious. His cooking is also shown in Series 3, episode 4 (Cook Off) and 5 (Only Child). In his debut episode, he says he DJs at "top major gigs" but then he admits that he DJs at little kids' parties. Jack often tries to be a good friend but ends up doing something weird. He is addicted to junk food, but tries to quit eating it in series 4 episode 6 but Maisy and Max have a competition to see who can make Jack eat junk food first. However both Max and Maisy fail as Jack eats an apple instead of the sickly treats they are trying to give Jack, but at the end of the episode he is seen eating a bowl of popcorn with Dani.

Sam (Klariza Clayton) 2008 - 2011: Dani's best friend and science geek who spends most of her time at the village library. She was introduced in series 1, episode 1. She is shown to be very clever with a sense of humor who likes things in order. Her idol is Professor Brian Cox, and cannot stand anyone that criticizes him. As well as the sciences, she is worried about endangered species of animals as shown in series 2, episode 9. She had a brief stint as a pop star before her manager realized she couldn't sing. She reveals in series 4 that she is going to train as an astronaut for NASA and leaves later in the series. A future scene, seven years later, shows that she makes it onto another planet and is there greeted by an oblivious, sunbathing Zang and Zark.

Toby (Harry Culverhouse) 2008,2010: A friend of Dani's that is shown to have low intelligence and obsessed about his hair. During the series that he is in, he has a numerous amount of jobs ranging from a waiter to a pet-sitter for the fictional organisation, P.L.O.P.S. He gets along well with Ben, Max's friend as they both have the same intelligence. It is shown in series 1, episode 7, that he got his obsession for hair and hair-gel after Dani and Sam rubbed Mayonnaise into his hair after he pushed in front of them in a line. It is revealed in series 2, episode 1 that he left for medical school after passing the exam by answering "bum" to every question. He makes a cameo appearance in the Christmas special after dropping out of medical school and instead selling DVDs about "The Sloth Who Loved Christmas". He has obviously returned before as he seems to know Jack and even has a special handshake with him.

Max (Sebastian Applewhite) 2008 - present: Dani's 12-year-old brother who is enemies with Dani. He wants to be a millionaire and rule the world with his less-intelligent friend, Ben. Usually, he uses Ben as his servant and also annoys Dani. He has an evil laugh when he has finished his plan and Ben never gets why he's laughing. He also wishes to be an evil genius. His middle name is, "Sebastian" after "Sebastian Applewhite" who is Max's actor.

Ben (James Gandhi) 2008 - Present : Max's best friend who is of below-average intelligence. He is Max's sidekick and often spends a lot of time at Dani's house. Also he is hilarious to the audience when he does says something weird! Despite having below-average intelligence, he tends to think up Max's evil plans, but Max always pretends it was his idea, at which point Ben praises Max. Ben did not appear in Series 3 Episode 3 (Grandad and the emo of Doom) as Gandhi was not available for episode filming. In series 4, he is shown to be more intelligent and more capable of going solo as Max does not star in a lot of episodes he is in.

Coordinators Zang and Zark (Harry Culverhouse and Dani Harmer respectively) - Two green aliens who are travelling together across the universe. They are totally mad about their favourite human show "Dani's House", pretending they are on a mission to find out more about humans, but that's an excuse to watch it.

Ruby (Steff White) 2011- Present Introduced in Series 4, Episode 6. Ruby at first is Dani`s energetic personal fitness trainer, who later becomes good friends with her and begins to regularly visit the house (taking Sam's place, who was written out of the show not long after Ruby's arrival). She has a younger sister called Maisy, who is very much like Dani's brother Max.

Maisy (Millie Innes) 2011- 2012 Introduced in Series 4 Episode 6 - Ruby's younger sister, who is very similar to Dani's brother Max. Maisy likes to plot schemes to get her own way or to get even with her rival, Max. She is put across as "weird" to the cast.
