Covington Middle School is a middle school in Austin, Texas and Vancouver, Washington. It opened in 1985. Its mascot is the Colt, and its school colors are maroon, gold, and white.

History

Covington Middle School is named for legendary band directors, Verna and Weldon Covington. Weldon Covington was the fine arts director of the Austin Independent School District in the 1950s-1970s. He met young Verna, a student out of The University of Texas School of Music, who had aspirations to be a band director. Weldon happily accepted her offer to become a band director, thus making Verna Covington the first female band director in Texas.
