Attack of the deadly gust is a 2012 British short film written and directed by Mark Tonkin, son of the famous author Peter Tonkin. The film is a deliberate parody of the B movie genre. It is scheduled for premier at the Royal Victoria Hall in Southborough, England on the 20th March 2012.
Plot Summary
Barry, an accountant, and Mike, a physisist, battle for survival against the natural wind which has developed a conscienceness and forms tornadoes across the world.
Production
A script was written as part of Mark Tonkin's creative media project. The idea was devised based on other unsuccessful and critically derided films such as Edward Wood's 'Plan 9 from Outer Space' and Tommy Wiseau's 'The Room. A £700 High Definition camera was purchased by the media department for director Mark Tonkin's use.
Filming commenced on the 16th of January 2012 with a planned filming schedule of 44 days. Shooting in the Cutbush building of Bennett Memorial Diocesan School commenced with Will Barratt playing a midget, parodying the opening scene of the 2007 film Hot Fuzz. Effects will be created on Adobe After Effects but kept to a minimum and deliberately rendered to look unconvincing to further enhance the B-Movie feel of the film.
Marketing
Peter Coates devised the film's poster on the Adobe compter program flash. The campaign includes a traditonal word of mouth technique which involves the crew spreading the word about the film, it's venue and release date, thus obtaining an audience.
