Thirded. I'd remove the Sherlock references (way too specific, tumblr is not *that* narrow) myself, but I don't get an edit button and I'm not going to bother finding my account details to log in and see if that helps. If anything content specific needs to be on there it probably should be a reference to, as a podcaster put it the other day, "even if you don't know tumblr, you've probably looked at porn on it". Advertisment ?

This page sounds like an advertisement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.92.130.15 (talk) 14:32, 10 July 2009 (UTC) (noun) a place where nocturnal individuals manage to have a cyber party, and actually enjoy it.[reply]

I agree. "takes only 30 seconds to sign up" might be (almost) true, but it has no bearing on the article. Karandr (talk) 11:28, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning?

"Jeff Rock created the Tumblr app for the iPhone, which was acquired by Tumblr in 2009." Does this mean that Tumblr has acquired iPhone or one iPhone or what? Maybe they acquired the app? What does that mean? Confusing wording, someone should rewrite this.--35.9.42.152 (talk) 22:23, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed this: "In 2009, Tumblr acquired the Tumblr iPhone app that was created by Jeff Rock." I also undid an edit to fix, "On March 17, 2010, the Tumblr really have said no to this staff blog announced that Tumblr is now accessible on BlackBerry smart phones." Ablatner (talk) 02:46, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The current wording of "Apple Inc. App Store application" just sounds ridiculous. As if we're trying to promote this newfangled concept or something. Perhaps "iOS app" would suffice? 66.49.226.137 (talk) 14:10, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked link?

Well, while editing the article about Yasemin Mori, I could't add her "official" tumblr account due to spam.
Or, I should wait her while setting domain options. --Ont (talkcontribs) 3:13 pm, 7 January 2010, Thursday (2 years, 25 days ago) (UTC−5)

Comparison to other blogging platforms?

Is this a section worth adding? Would be good to see why this service is used or ignored by different bloggers.

For example Tumblr's multimedia capabilities and its ease of posting content are its strength, but it lacks some features that other blogging platforms have.(Joetimes (talk) 09:49, 21 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]

I seem to be one of the few people on earth that doesnät like Tumblr. It would indeed be good to see some opinions on both sides of the aisle. YellowAries2010 (talk) 17:07, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

4chan Wars

I think there should be mention of the newer events related to the "war" 4chan declared on Tumblr. This could possibly go along with Reception from others... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alanna91 (talkcontribs) 01:31, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, but where are the necessary sources?--JaredT 10:12, 19 January 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by JaredThornbridge (talkcontribs)

There is no 'war', just a bunch of teenagers with DOS tools. 175.36.243.132 (talk) 14:47, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 194.150.65.23, 31 March 2011

The link to Tumblr's staff blog was removed at some point from the external links section, I think it should be put back.

194.150.65.23 (talk) 16:24, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the "TopSites" spam link from the external links section. I don't think that's appropriate or necessary here. --194.150.65.13 (talk) 22:54, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why

Why do people need to provide a url to sign up? Totnesmartin (talk) 10:42, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's like a username or handle, it's not a reference to an external resource (as you appear to think) 175.36.243.132 (talk) 14:50, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks. Totnesmartin (talk) 13:05, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The link to social network is misleading, as the article is about social networks as a field of study in sociiology/social psychology, not in the online sense. Solri (talk) 09:48, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

post limit

I just want to say that I agree with the IP user who has deleted the post limit section. It's not really relevant, and it has no citations. It's basically just an un-encyclopedic protest against the limit. Cadwaladr (talk) 07:41, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tumblr is a tool

Tumblr is a new age way of blogging that can be complex. Tumblr is a tool used to post pictures you've taken and also allows you freedom to post things that interest you. Tumblr also allows you freedom to customize your page and add music to it. Most people use Tumblr for posting pictures or "reblogging" which is what you do when you see a picture you like that you want visible on your page. Tumblr can however be inappropriate to some who are not of age due to freedom of posting anything that include profanity, sex, drugs, etc but for the most part it is a cool tool that most bloggers love! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.197.0.24 (talk) 05:04, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tumblr's features

Tumblr has a number of different features. One can post text, pictures, external links, videos, and audio. There are three main types of text that users can post: normal text, a quote, and a conversation between two people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jennji (talkcontribs) 02:03, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Usage

According to Tumblr's About page, "The average Tumblr user creates 14 original posts each month, and reblogs 3. Half of those posts are photos. The rest are split between text, links, quotes, music, and video." [1] --Julczeskleba (talk) 20:36, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ask/Roleplaying Blogs

"Many ask blogs-blogs that users send questions to, which are usually replied to in art form-have been created on it, Homestuck and My Little Pony appearing frequently as ask blogs. Sherlock blogs exist as well. Some of these have developed into roleplaying blogs."

Not only is this poorly written, how is this necessary and important information? 118.209.4.94 (talk) 03:46, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basic Tumblr Information

Tumblr was founded in 2007 by David Karp. It is a customizable micro-blogging site that is mostly used as a way for users to share their interests and express themselves through a variety of media including: text, photos, quotes, links, audio files, and video files. Currently, Tumblr has 105 employees and is continuing to grow; its offices are in New York City and Richmond, Virginia. The site is available in 13 different languages. There are 54.7 million blogs and 22.6 billion blog posts. On average, there are about 62 million posts per day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.33.242.75 (talk) 01:50, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile App

Tumblr is available as a mobile application on the following smart phones: iPhone, Android, and blackberry. It is available in 7 different languages. The mobile app was created in 2011 and is free to download on the devices. It allows you all of the same media sharing options as the website: text, photo, link, quote, audio, and video. The app allows you to share things on the go. The biggest critique that the app has received is that it closes unexpectedly; it has many bugs that still need to be worked out. Another common complaint is that there is no search bar to search users or tags. Overall, the app has received very average reviews from the users of all 3 devices. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.33.242.75 (talk) 02:01, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 10 May 2012

Tumblr is an easy to use site, requiring only a username/password/email address to begin and then you are set. This site is user-generated and requires the posts of its users in order to survive. You are able to follow and search for different users, and you can even search for specific tags in order to find what you are looking for.

This site is up and coming in the social media site, with celebrities adding their own pages every day. Tumblr is a spot for people to express their opinions and develop their online personalities based on their own ideas and those that influence them. Bmzingler (talk) 04:45, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
