Sikes with positive characteristics?

The fact that Sikes took Oliver with him for a while after the robbery is very ambiguous where motive is concerned. It has been interpreted as Sikes not wanting Oliver to survive and tell all about Fagin's operations. I'm not so sure it should be cited so definitely. 71.162.35.113 01:38, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sikes/Sykes

Would I be right in thinking that the spelling changed from the Original texts somewhere along the line? This article switches back and forth from Sikes to Sykes several times. Perhaps it would be best to change them all to one spelling, and make note of the change.81.144.251.46 15:10, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure Dickens was confused about the spelling of Sikes's name: It's "Bill Sikes" in the original serial and 1846 editions (all I have at the office). 149.152.23.31 13:50, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dickens may not have been, but somebody sure is. Even "Jeopardy!" has it "Sykes"... Trekphiler 03:53, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Im currently doing this performance and we have four different versions of the script. In them the stage directions are all different but the lines are the same and throughout each the spelling is Sykes. As the article is headed Bill SYkes and the article Bill SIkes redirects here I think it is better that the whole article conforms to the Sy spelling. Mangwanani 15:58, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just because we currently have the article "Sykes" is no reason not to change it. Moving a page is quite easy. I would certainly be in favor of spelling it "Sikes" since that is in fact how the character from Dickens' novel is spelling. Maybe there is an argument that the character from some play version or movie version, etc. is "Bill Sykes" but the character from Oliver Twist is "Bill Sikes" and that is clearly who this article is about. What possible version could be more authentic? --Jdvelasc 01:42, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out it isn't easy to move the page to "Bill Sikes". It looks like it was originally there and then it was moved here on March 21st (2007) to "Bill Sykes" which is now a disambig so I can't just move it back without an admin. Is there an admin available willing to move this page back to "Bill Sikes"? Or is there actually anybody out there who doesn't think this should be done?
--Jdvelasc 05:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If there's anybody who thinks it shouldn't be done, it's too late now. (insert evil laugh here) --Paul A (talk) 01:48, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Improvement needed

It's a sad state of affairs when more line space in an article is given to a totally specious Disney "version" than to the Dickens' original, and when the name, clearly written in edition after edition, is "Sikes". (If there was alternate spelling in the newspaper serials, then authenticate it). --Buckboard 18:02, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

What is an "eventual murderer"? This article is one of the worst in Wikipedia. Incidentally, there was no ambiguity about Sikes' death - it was accidental. But perhaps the author was thinking or one of the movie versions.

This Sykes

She's described as "girlfriend", not "wife", so, what was Nancy's surname? (And please don't say "Sykes", we've had that debate.) Trekphiler 03:55, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you can't spell "Charles Dickens"

You probably shouldn't be posting on the page. This page really, really needs to be fixed up in a hurry.
