Shaheed Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani Universiy (informally Ustad Rabbani University) is a [[public university|public] located in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was founded in 1292 [3] as a Teachers Training Center. In 1343 it became the Teachers Training Academy, awarding Bachelors degrees to its students in fellowship with UNESCO [4] . In 1363 it developed into the Institute of Pedagogy. In 1994 it was given the status of higher education institute and transfered to the Ministry of Higher Education by the then President in 1994 [5] Burhanuddin Rabbani [6] [7]. It was given an official charter as a University in 2003 [8] . On September 20th, 2012 it was officially named as "Shaheed Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani University" by the council of ministers and President Hamid Karzai [9] [10]

History

Origins

Originally, it was the Teachers Training Centre. In 1343, it became Teacher Training Academy, which gave Bachelors and Masters Degrees to the teachers completing their courses with the fellowship of UNESCO. In 1363, it developed into Kabul Institute of Pedagogy. At that time, the Institute had 4 Faculties: Faculty of Language & Literature, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Roshan. The majority of Roshan's students were also teachers who were teaching in schools in addition to getting a Bachelors Degree by completing their courses. Meanwhile in 1363, the Faculty of Physical Education also became a part of Pedagogy Institute, raising the number of Faculties to 5. It is worth mentioning that until 1370, this Institute gave Masters Degrees in subjects of Philosophy, Educational Psychology, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry with the help of Afghan Teachers along with the Russian Instructors from the USSR of that time. Kabul Institute of Pedagogy managed itself to be there from 1363 to 1374 under Ministry of Education, when in 1994 [11] command was given to the Ministry of Higher Education by the Head of Government at that time Burhanuddin Rabbani[12] [13].It was changed into Kabul Education University in 1381(2003. On September 20th, 2012 it was officially named as Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani University by a Presidential decree implementing the decision of the council of ministers [14]

Campus

The main and the only campus of the university lies in Afshar locality of Kabul on Shaheed Rabbani Road [15]

Organisation and administration

The University is managed by the Ministry of higher Education. The day-to-day running of the University is the responsibility of the Chancellor. The current chancellor of Burhanuddin Rabbani University is Amanullah Hamidzai[16]
